ANDERSON — Through an extension of the Blight Elimination Program, the city of Anderson will be able to demolish at least 32 properties in 2020.
The Anderson Community Development Corp., or ACDC, on Thursday approved an amended agreement with the state to continue as the program’s community partner with the state of Indiana. ANDERSON – Although the federally funded blight elimination program is scheduled to conclude at the end of the year, the city of Anderson will receive funding in 2020.
Local resident Joe Carney asked during Thursday’s meeting of the City Council if the city was adding $100,000 to the budget for blight elimination. ANDERSON — "Amen, amen," was the reaction of Sean Wehner when he learned the city of Anderson was demolishing two abandoned houses in the 2300 block of Fletcher Street.
After a slow start to the federally funded Blight Elimination Program, the city is hoping to demolish 75 structures through funding from three different sources. Wehner has lived on the block for a year and is glad the city is doing something about the empty properties. ANDERSON — Two county housing developments in Anderson and Elwood received state Rental Housing Tax Credits to provide low-income housing.
The Fieldhouse Apartments, a $12.2 million development at the Wigwam complex, were awarded a little over $1 million in tax credits and another $765,000 in housing trust funds through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. |
